Irish Soda Bread

Irish soda bread is a quick homemade bread that doesn't require any yeast. Milk, baking soda and vinegar does all the work.

Irish soda bread is the simplest form of no yeast bread that can be prepared by beginners. You need few ingredients and no proofing for baking this soda bread. As the name says it tastes like soda, which acts as a leavening agent so there is no need of yeast in it. Also you don’t to work on the dough just assemble it, pop it in oven and enjoy!!

This Irish Soda Bread is a dense and moist bread that requires no rising time and just four simple ingredients to make. Most simplest form of bread that can be baked by beginners as well.

Ingredients

  • Vinegar – 1 tbsp
  • Milk – 1 Cup
  • Whole wheat flour – 1 cup
  • Plain flour – 1 cup
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda 
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 1 tsp salt 
  • 2 tbsp oil

How to Prepare Irish Soda Bread

  • In a bowl add milk and vinegar, mix it well and keep aside.
  • Sift in the dry ingredients and keep aside. Sifting is necessary which will incorporate air.
  • Add this sifted dry ingredients in the bowl with milk and vinegar mix.
  • Knead the dough just to get it all together, do not do it like we do to make chapattis. Just let it combine.
  • Shape it by tucking, brush with milk and sprinkle it with sesame seeds.
  • Make a slit with a sharp knife which helps it to bake from center as well.
  • You need to bake this at 200°C for 20 mins
  • Then reduce the temperature of the oven to 180°C and bake for 25 mins more!!
